To use a virtual camera on Discord, open OBS Studio, select the scene you want to share, and click Start Virtual Camera. In Discord, go to User Settings → Voice & Video → Camera, choose OBS Virtual Camera, and click Test Video. These steps use the Windows desktop app.

How to preview your video before a Discord call

  1. In Voice & Video, click Test Video. Compare Discord's preview with the intended OBS scene. Check that the picture is moving and the crop shows what you want to share. Turn off any Discord video background while testing so you can see the OBS feed clearly.
  2. Run Discord's Mic Test to check your voice. If video looks right, start a test call in a DM or join a server voice channel where your role has Video permission. Click Turn on Camera in the call panel when ready.
  3. Ask someone in the test call to confirm what they see. If text looks mirrored in your own preview, check the other person's view before flipping the source in OBS. Discord video calls · Discord mic test and channel permissions

Why is OBS Virtual Camera not showing up in Discord?

  • The OBS device is missing from Discord's Camera list. Confirm the virtual camera is running, then fully quit Discord and reopen it with OBS still running. On Windows, check Settings → Privacy & security → Camera and allow desktop apps to access the camera. If you're using Discord in a browser, check camera permission for the Discord site. If the Start Virtual Camera button itself is missing from OBS, use the OBS installation troubleshooting guide. Windows camera permissions · OBS virtual camera troubleshooting
  • OBS is listed, but Discord shows a black screen, frozen frame, or wrong scene. Check the source in OBS first. If the OBS source is blank, reopen Window Capture properties and select the window again. If the source is fine, use the gear beside Start Virtual Camera to check the output target. Program sends the current OBS output. Scene and Source send the one you selected. In Studio Mode, check the Program pane for what the virtual camera is sending when that mode is selected. • The preview works, but the call shows your usual camera or has no sound. Turn off call video, confirm OBS Virtual Camera is selected, and turn video back on. For sound, check the microphone under Input Device, make sure you're unmuted, and run Mic Test again. Discord audio and video troubleshooting

How to use live face swap on Discord with OBS

This setup changes your live camera feed in calls. Use Face Swap for a reference portrait or Restyle for an AI webcam effect such as an illustrated look.

  1. Generate the effect. Open the Live Face Swap workspace in a separate browser window. Choose Face Swap and use a portrait you have permission to use, or choose Restyle and pick a style. Sign in, open the physical camera in the workspace, then start generation and wait for a moving result. Live generation uses credits.
  2. Capture only the result. In OBS, add Window Capture and select the workspace window. Crop away the original-camera inset and browser controls. Keep the window open and unminimized, with the workspace tab selected. The Windows OBS capture guide explains how to crop and record a short test.
  3. Preview and turn on video. Start the OBS virtual camera, select it in Discord, and run Test Video. When the processed view is correct, turn on your camera in the DM or voice channel.
  4. Finish the session. Turn off Discord video, stop the OBS virtual camera, then end generation in the workspace. Save the workspace recording if you want to keep it.
