How to Use Google Meet Filters Before and During a Call
Turn Google Meet filters on or off, blur your background, and fix missing effects. Use two browser windows and OBS to add an AI camera effect on Windows.

To use Google Meet filters on a computer, open Backgrounds and effects under your preview before joining. During a call, open Video settings next to the microphone and find Backgrounds and effects there. Choose Filters to apply an effect. To clear it, open Turn off visual effects in the panel and remove the effect.
How to turn Google Meet filters on or off on a computer
- Before joining: Click Backgrounds and effects at the bottom right of your preview. Select Choose backgrounds and effects, open Filters, and pick an effect.
- During the meeting: Click Video settings next to the microphone. In Backgrounds and effects, open Filters and select the one you want.

Do you need to download Google Meet filters?
Meet's built-in effects are available in the call interface. You can add your own background image in Backgrounds. Some search results for downloadable filters lead to third-party Chrome extensions or camera apps. Check their permissions and compatibility before installing. For a live AI style from Live Face Swap on Windows, the steps below use OBS Studio as the camera output.
Why are Google Meet filters missing or not working?
- Check the meeting stage. If you are waiting to be admitted or joining as a guest without signing in, look for the effects panel after you enter. If your preview is black, turn on video and check the camera selected in Meet and the browser's camera permission.
- Check browser and device support. Update your browser or Meet app. If Chrome says it needs to be configured for visual effects, check Settings → System → Use graphics acceleration when available, restart Chrome, and check WebGL support.
- Check which effect is missing. On a work or school account, ask your administrator whether backgrounds or special effects are allowed. Individual effects such as makeup or AI backgrounds may also require an eligible edition. Google Meet effects requirements · Camera troubleshooting
The site also has an optional Meet extension for installed users. It is not publicly listed in the Chrome Web Store yet; follow the website and extension controls if you already have it. The OBS route below remains available independently. For Prism, a separate OBS result window is now available; Restyle uses the manual capture route described below.
How to use an AI webcam effect in Google Meet with OBS on Windows
Use two separate browser windows. Keep the Live Face Swap result visible in one window and the Google Meet call in the other. OBS should capture only the workspace window. Switching tabs in the captured window can put the meeting itself into the outgoing video.
- Generate in the workspace window. Open the Live Face Swap workspace. Choose Restyle for an illustrated or other styled look, or Face Swap with a reference portrait you have permission to use. Sign in, open your physical camera in the workspace, and start generation. Live generation uses credits.
- Capture the result in OBS. Add Window Capture and select the workspace window. Crop to the processed result so the original-camera inset and page controls are outside the frame. Keep the window open and unminimized, with its workspace tab selected. Once the OBS preview shows the right scene, click Start Virtual Camera. OBS Virtual Camera guide
- Select the virtual camera in the Meet window. Open Settings → Video and choose OBS Virtual Camera. Under Audio, select your microphone separately. Clear any active Meet effects, then verify the picture and mic level before joining. If OBS doesn't appear, check that its virtual camera is running and reload the Meet tab. Meet camera and audio settings
- Finish the session. Turn off Meet video, stop the virtual camera in OBS, then end generation in the workspace. Save the workspace recording if you want to keep it.
If Meet shows the original camera, confirm that OBS Virtual Camera is selected and that the OBS scene shows the processed view. If the OBS preview is black or frozen, check whether the workspace result is still moving and reselect the workspace window in OBS. The Windows OBS capture guide shows how to crop and record a short test before you use it in a call.
